Form

To
bind ye spell every time, let ye spell be spake in rhyme.
Soft
of eye, light of touch, speak ye little, listen much.
Deosil
go by the waxing moon, singing out ye Witches’ Rune.
Widdershins

When
the Lady’s moon is new, kiss your hand to her times two.
When
the moon rides at her peak, then ye heart’s desire seek.
Heed
the North wind’s mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.
When
the wind comes from the South, love will kiss thee on the mouth.
When
the wind blows from the West, departed souls may have no rest.
When
the wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast.
Nine

"Note"
A recent communication I received from a visitor to this site (Moondancer,
02/04/2000) has brought to my attention and enlightened me as to the original
source of the above 'Wiccan Rede'. It was not as I had believed (and
imagine many others would have believed) written by 'Doreen Valiente'. It
was as she asserts written by a 'Lady Gwynne Thompson' who was a primary teacher
of the N.E.C.T.W. (New England Coven of Traditionalist Witches) from 1928
- 1986.
Moondancer tells me that in the 'Green Egg' magazine (issue #69), Lady Gwen (aka
Lady Gwynne) Thompson, wrote and attributed their tradition’s version of the
Rede to 'Adriana Porter' her paternal grandmother who was well into her 90’s
when she crossed over into the Summerland's in 1946.
She says "This version of the Rede has appeared in many publications,
on various websites and in many stores (framed for purchase by those who follow
Wiccan values). These printed versions come from the Green Egg magazine
where it was first published by Lady Gwynne. There have been only a few
instances when the name of Lady Gwynne has been mentioned. Lady Gwynne
wrote and gave this Rede to the world for enlightenment and for this I honour
her".
My responce:
In light of Moondancer's assertions, I include Lady Gwynne's name here where it
is just and well deserved to be. All for now, have a nice day.
